Respect for Women in the Hood

Respect for Women in the Hood

As a pharmacist in the hood, I have noticed that some guys have treated me quite shabbily. I thought it was just me.

There were men that tried to pull "fast-ones" on me, tried
to "trick me" into giving them early refills on their meds, tried to bully me in various ways.

What always took care of the situations was the involvement of the store manager. A man. Just an average-sized man. Pleasant enough.

The women aren't much better, actually. I've been bullied and harassed by women, too.

Why is this?

Well, thanks to the rap and hip-hop music that is so popular, we can see why women are treated so badly. Women are called terrible names and referred to in the most vile ways. The young people listen to the music and believe it as "gospel truth". The guys treat the girls like prostitutes and dogs. The girls start acting like hookers in order to get the guys' attention.

So, the girls don't act respectably.

What about girls that do act repsectably? Well, they get treated like dirt, too.

What is the solution? Well, it's not more government money, social programs, more money for the schools, "self-esteem" programs, etc.

The answer is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He associated with the drunks, prostiututes, thieves and cheaters. He associated with women, the sick, and the down-trodden. These were the people who followed Him.

It was not the elite, educated, upper-echelon people who followed Him. In short, these people didn't "get it". They couldn't believe that Jesus would associate with the "lowest of the low."

But, Jesus said that it was "the sick, who needed a doctor." The elite people didn't think they had any sin problems; they were "perfect" because they kept the law better than the average person. But the elites were sick, too, because they were blind to the message of salvation through faith in Christ.

Jesus reached out to Mary & Martha, the woman at the well, the woman caught in adultery. There were women who recognized their need for Him - the woman with the bleeding disorder who touched Jesus' robe, the woman who poured perfume on Jesus' feet.

So, yes, Jesus values women. And men.

So, when women and men see their value and worth through Christ, everything changes. They treat each other with respect. They live in peace with each other. They love their spouses and children.

Bratz Dolls

Bratz Dolls

Bratz dolls are not allowed in our house. They look like little tramps! I've worked in the ghettoes of Niagara Falls and Buffalo. The ghetto lifestyle hasn't gotten people very far in life.

But, hey, it's cool and fashionable, right? And it makes you sexy!

Do I want my 5-year-old daughter to emulate the dress of the Bratz dolls? No, I do not.

The girls and young "ladies" in the "hoods" who dress in a manner similar to Bratz dolls are more concerned with guys than with school or legitimate jobs. Many, many are either pregnant or have kids (often by more than one father). They are, of course, not married (but that's a blog for another day).
